Les Sables d'Olonne, the famous seaside resort on the Vendée coast, is as lively by night as it is by day! With several beaches nearby and its miles of wild, rocky, chaotic coastline, it's an ideal place for a vacation with family or friends. Nicknamed "The Pearl of the Côte de Lumière", the resort of Les Sables d'Olonne is known for its wide beaches covered with fine sand exposed by the tides, and it is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Nature lovers will prefer a trip further north to see the vast, wild expanses with their green coastline. Culture and history buffs will head to the south to the fortified castles and their seaside footpaths. And, of course, you can't talk about Les Sables d'Olonne without mentioning the Vendée Globe, that legendary single-handed yacht race that has brought worldwide recognition to the resort and its ports and is scheduled to begin again in November 2008.
