Carcassonne, Prefecture of the Aude department, is a town with two World Heritage sites: the Canal du Midi listed in 1996 (environmental), and the Cité de Carcassonne listed in 1997 (cultural). The town comprises two distinct parts : la Cité occupies a plateau on the right bank of the river Aude. The Bastide Saint-Louis lies on the left bank.

The old district of la Trivalle and the famous Pont Vieux have been, since that time, the links uniting their destiny. Carcassonne has
inherited 2000 years of history and invites you to explore its heritage of fine monuments.

Situated 90 km from Toulouse, at the junction of the main communications routes linking the Atlantic and the Mediterranean,
Carcassonne today enjoys excellent transport services.
