Great seaport and business centre, Bordeaux has always been a city of transit and trading.
Nowadays the wine capital of the world, economic centre of southwest France, gateway to the Iberian peninsula and an important
university and tourist centre, the city is at the heart of a dense and diversified transport network.
This network enables all visitors to approach the city easily, quickly and by whatever means takes their fancy: sea or river, land or
air and, why not, even by bike.

• Sports : rugby, pelota, football (Chaban-Delmas stadium), golf…
International sports venues: League 1 and European Cup (football), Lacanau pro (surfing), Jumping International (horse riding), the
‘6 jours de Bordeaux’ (cycling).
• Bathing : beach at the lake: a real sandy beach offers swimming within a supervised area (July & August). There is a beachvolleyball court and the beach adjoins the Bordeaux-Lac and the Emulation Nautique sailing club.
• Water sports : Surfing, sailing club, rowing.

Wine and Vineyards: Wine is central to the history of Bordeaux. For nearly two thousand years, wine growing has marked the city and formed the landscapes of the Bordeaux area. It has accompanied the prosperity of the local economy. • Heritage : Cathédrale Saint André, Basilique Saint Seurin, Basilique Saint Michel. The cave paintings of the Vézère valley, la
jurisdiction of Saint-Émilion, and the pilgrim routes of Santiago de Compostela all listed as World Heritage Sites on 2nd December
1998 by the General Assembly of Unesco. The Palais Rohan, the Grands Hommes district, the Grand Théâtre, the Allées de
Tourny.
• Parks and gardens: Bois (wood) de Bordeaux, Parc Floral, Parc Bordelais, Jardin Botanique, Jardin des Dames de la Foi.
• The quays : the facades embellished with mascarons (grotesque heads) and agrafes decorating the windows, the quays stretch for more than 1km along the river Garonne.
• Old Bordeaux : the former religious quarter
• Museums : Musée des Beaux arts (fine arts gallery), musée d’Aquitaine, musée d’histoire naturelle (natural history), the Centre
Jean Moulin.
